Flexibility Platform: First Ever Capacity Offers and Calls
Trial operation for WindNODE flexibility platform enters practical phase / Project should help reduce curtailment of renewable energy installations
Offering installation capacities for flexible use in case of congestion management: that is the goal of the flexibility platform developed by WindNODE project partners 50Hertz, Stromnetz Berlin, Wemag, ENSO NETZ and e.dis. The platform has been undergoing tests since November 2018.
On 14 March 2019, capacities were offered for the first time and called during the afternoon. "This means that the trial operation has now entered the practical feasibility phase. We can now demonstrate that the integration of numerous producers, storage facility operators and consumers in a single market environment leads to a reduced curtailment of renewable energy, especially now, in a season with a high wind yield”, said 50Hertz WindNODE project leader Georg Meyer-Braune. During the first call, a district heating installation of Vattenfall, an industrial complex of Siemens and storage facilities of the Lidl and Kaufland supermarkets were used in the grid of WindNODE partner Stromnetz Berlin, together constituting more than ten megawatts.
The trial operation of the flexibility platform will continue until the summer of 2019 and the processes are gradually being set up at another 30 WindNODE partners. In doing so, they become potential suppliers. Continuous operation will then begin until the end of the project runtime in 2020. The objective is to also use such installations for grid congestion management after the project has ended.
