Saxony

“ Saxony is an energy region with a reliable, inexpensive and domestic energy supply. This is the starting point for research, development and production with innovative technologies in the areas of storage and grid integration to integrate the volatile energy from wind and sun into existing systems.”

Energy Transition In Saxony

As a state with large economic, technological and social potential, Saxony has the opportunity and ability to create a forward-looking energy supply as a response to the global challenges through sensible and sustainable energy policy and with full involvement of citizens and businesses. A smart energy policy creates reliable conditions for ensuring dependable, affordable and environmentally friendly provision of energy in the future.

The energy policy of the Free State of Saxony pursues three primary strategic goals: first, a continously increasing efficiency in the generation, transport and use of energy; second, the development and application of a broad mix of economically usable energy carriers and technologies; and third, expansion of research and development in the area of energy technologies in order to further strengthen Saxony as an energy industry region. Intelligent solutions and innovative technologies in the areas of environmental technology, renewable energy and energy efficiency from the Free State of Saxony make important contributions here.

With its patronage of the WindNODE joint project, the state government of Saxony supports the successful realisation of the energy transition. 13 Saxon project partners contribute their drive to innovate, their internationally recognised engineering competence and their technical expertise primarily in the areas of “neighbourhood concepts” and “(industrial) load shifting” in the interests of developing technical and commercial solutions for the intelligent integration of renewable energy. Innovative, user-oriented products and services from Saxony are tested in an extensive reality lab to make them ready for the mass market. The implementation of these demonstrator projects further strengthens the competitiveness and export potential of Saxon companies. Moreover, the demonstrated solutions and strategies can make an important contribution to conserving resources and energy and protecting our climate.

“ Within the WindNODE project, Saxony can live up to its tradition as an energy region while also contributing to the energy system of the future. With the existing know-how in companies and research institutions, we will develop new business models. At the end of the project, there will be services available on the market that are still unheard of today.”

Martin Dulig, Saxon State Minister of Economic Affairs, Labour and Transport and Deputy Prime Minister
