Fraunhofer IFF uses custom solutions to help German and foreign companies make their manufacturing smarter. We are a technology partner specialized in planning, developing, equipping and operating work, manufacturing and supply chain systems as well as their supply infrastructures. We design work systems in which humans and machines collaborate side-by-side. We combine these work systems in efficient manufacturing and supply chain systems and use smart infrastructures to connect them with each other and their environment.

Short description of the project contribution

Optimal flexibilisation through integral consideration of the energy-intensive industry

Fraunhofer IFF and its project partners have set themselves the goal to achieve optimal flexibilisation of the energy-intensive industry consisting of consumers, energy conversion plants and storage facilities. The energy value chain, its dependencies on operating processes and the external market and technical grid signals are considered in their entirety. This way, a higher degree of flexibilisation of processes and installations in the industry can lead to more security and an efficient integration of renewable energy at the control area level in a verifiable manner and as such contribute to the economic common good.

The IndustryEnergyHub planned in the scope of the project creates a microsimulation of a company from the process industry and enables testing and evaluating of DSM/DSR system functions. To this end, Fraunhofer IFF Magdeburg is working together intensively with its partners InfraLeuna GmbH, the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg and the Centre for Renewable Energy. Through the demonstrators, part of the industry-oriented and accessible WindNODE showcase should be created.
