Kick-off for the first DIN SPEC in the scope of WindNODE

WindNODE partners elaborate standards for participation in flexibility platform

Kick off-Treffen der WindNODE-Partner für die Erarbeitung der DIN SPEC

In today’s energy system, generation is largely oriented towards the consumption of energy. As a result of the growing share of volatile renewables, the energy supply is increasingly subject to weather-dependent fluctuations. The energy system has to be made more flexible with a view to aligning consumption with generation in order to maintain grid stability.

Within the WindNODE consortium funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) in the scope of the SINTEG programme, the so-called flexibility platform was developed by 50Hertz, E.Dis Netz, Enso Netz, Stromnetz Berlin and Wemag Netz. The goal of the platform is realise a market-based mechanism for the procurement of flexibility (adjustment of electricity generation or electricity consumption by the operator of the installation based on an external signal). Thanks to the platform, flexibilities should be used for the process of congestion management of power grids.

The workstream of WindNODE partner DIN consists in the translation of the study results into norms and standards. In cooperation with the companies mentioned above, a standard should be elaborated that lays down requirements for participation in the platform.

The minimum technical requirements are defined in such a way that the aptness for grid congestion management is given and necessary follow-up processes such as settlement can be realised. In addition to requirements for the communication infrastructure, the settlement process also results in time specifications for data transmission for the bidding and call process. A registration process verifies whether these requirements are met or the criteria are described in the product definition. After registration, bidders can participate on a voluntary basis and place flexibility bids via the platform.
