Wastewater treatment plant Dresden-Kaditz

Stadtentwässerung Dresden GmbH is responsible for public wastewater disposal on behalf of the state capital of Dresden.

The fact that Stadtentwässerung Dresden does not only see itself as a modern environmental provider of water services shows its commitment to the use of renewable energy. Stadtentwässerung Dresden generates energy from renewable sources such as sewage sludge, geothermal and wastewater heat, hydropower and solar power. Photovoltaic modules are installed on the roof of the rain overflow basin of the Dresden-Kaditz wastewater treatment plant. Stadtentwässerung Dresden currently converts biogas produced from sewage sludge into electricity in three combined heat and power plants, covering around 70 per cent of its energy requirements. The electric Smart in the vehicle fleet of Stadtentwässerung Dresden is powered by self-produced energy from sewage sludge and therefore has zero fuel costs and zero emissions.

Stadtentwässerung Dresden GmbH offers free guided tours of the Dresden-Kaditz wastewater treatment plant to interested groups after prior appointment. The tours take between 1.5 and 2 hours. Special technical subjects can be addressed specifically upon request.
